Do you need to start a blog?
One of the myths associated with the idea of starting blogs is that you must be a skilled writer in order to succeed. It’s not the reality. Bloggers read blogs for a more personal view on the world, and that’s why most bloggers write in an informal and casual style.
Due to the structure it is common for bloggers to write about a wide range of subjects in the one blog.
Furthermore there is no need to have a degree in each of the subjects you write about in order to create an effective blog. For instance, readers of the cooking blog don’t want to learn from an expert in food science, they would like to hear about the experiences of someone who has made real meals with mistakes, and all.
To become successful as a blogger, there’s only one prerequisite to be successful: enthusiasm for your subject.
In the end, the blog is all about sharing expertise with others. Writing about topics you love helps make the process of starting an effective blog simpler. So long as you’re writing about topics you’re truly passionate about, your enthusiasm will be evident and keep your readers interested.
Why would you take on the task of writing a blog? There are several reasons.
- Let your story be heard. A blog allows you to voice your opinion that is heard. It allows you to communicate your story to the world at large if you decide to. A very popular ways to use blogs is as journals where the blogger is able to write about their day-to-day events so that their family members, friends and even strangers can be aspect of the lives they lead.
- Earn money at your home. Blogging can be extremely lucrative when done correctly. The most successful bloggers in the world are obviously earning quite a lot however even a blogger who is part-time can expect to earn a decent money if everything is done right. The desirable aspect is that it is a passive source of income as you only spend a few hours each week creating an article of material and you can continue to earn money from it even after writing has been completed. I will go into more details on how to blog for cash later in this article.
- Recognition for you or your business. No, you likely won’t be surrounded by paparazzi due to the latest blog post you’ve published. A successful blog turns your ideas a reality and can recieve you lots of attention in your area of expertise. Many bloggers are regarded as experts purely by their blogs and some even have gotten film and book deals in connection with their blogs.
- Find communities. Blogging at its core is an active. When you write a post, people leave comments on it. This is a great method to make connections with others who are also interested in the same issues as you. Blogs allow you to educate those who read your blog by sharing your experiences and also gives you the chance to get knowledge from others, too.

What is a blog, anyway?
In essence, a blog is one type of site that is primarily focused on writing material that is also known by the name of blog post. In pop culture, we often read about blogs about news or celebrities’ websites, but as you’ll discover in this article you can create an effective blog in any topic you can think of.
Bloggers usually blog from their personal point of view which allows them to communicate direct with readers. Additionally, many blogs also feature an “comments” section where visitors can interact to the blog’s author. Engaging with visitors through the comments section can help to enhance the connection with the writer and reader.
The direct connection with the reader is among the primary benefits of having your own blog. This allows you to communicate and exchange ideas with similar-minded individuals. This also lets you build trust with your visitors. The trust and loyality of your readers allows you to start earning money through your blog, an aspect I will go over in the guide.
The positive side is that the web is growing exponentially in the present. More users than ever are online. This rapid growth in traffic implies more readers for blogs. If you are considering creating a blog, there’s no better time to start than now.
Let’s begin your blog!
Step 1: Select a name for your blog.
If you’re uncertain about the name of your blog, or the subject to write about go onto next section. following section.
If you’ve already come up with some ideas for what your blog’s name, verify that nobody else has registered it:
Check if the name of your blog is in use:
NOTE: Note that you can’t make use of punctuation marks or spaces other than dashes within the domain’s name.
If you discover that the name you want has already been taken, there are several things you could take action:
- Try using a different domain extension. If the .com version is already registered, you might still be able be able to get it .net as well as .org variant of this name.
- Include small phrases. Words like “a”, “my”, “accurate”, or “the”. For instance, this website is known as TheBlogStarter.com rather than BlogStarter.com.
- Add dashes between words. For example, scott-chow.com
How to Choose a Blog Topic & Name
If you’re still not able to come up with an idea for an initial name it’s the initial step deciding the blog’s topic.
If you’re unsure of what you want to write about If you’re not sure what to blog about, there are some methods to choose a suitable blog subject:
- Experiences from life. Everyone has lessons they’ve learned from their life experiences. Sharing these lessons could be extremely beneficial for others who are who are in similar situations.
As an example, I helped a woman begin her own blog on being a wife of a fireman. The woman is a firefighter’s wife and has enough experience and expertise to share with other people about this subject. It helped her meet others who are who are in similar situations.
Consider the experiences you’ve experienced in your the past. It could be related with your own family (example of this is a blog about being a stay-at home mom) or work (a blog about your experiences working with clients) or any other events (a blog on dealing with difficult times such as divorce or a sickness or a joyful occasion such as preparing for an engagement or the birth of a baby). - Personal blogs. A personal blog is a personal blog about your life. It can cover a wide range of topics, from activities you do on a regular routine as well as random thoughts and reflections. It’s a great opportunity to communicate your thoughts to the world at large without being restricted to one particular topic.
- Passions and hobbies. Hobbies or other hobbies you’re enthusiastic about is a great way to begin. Travel, cooking fashion, sports, and cars are all good examples. However, even blogs on less well-known hobbies can be successful since your target audience is anyone on the internet.
After you’ve chosen a subject, it’s time to pick your blog’s name, which is which is also known as Your Domain Name.
A blog’s name should be a descriptive one to assure that readers can immediately determine the subject matter of your blog by the name alone.
If you blog on a specific subject, then you should include it in a certain way when you choose the domain name. Don’t get caught up on a single word, however. For instance, a cooking blog doesn’t need to contain”cooking” in it “cooking” in it. A blog with the terms “food”, “recipes” or “meals” would also let readers know the blog’s focus is cooking.
If you’re planning to establish a personal blog on which you will write about a range of subjects, I suggest together your name or a variant of it, as the blog is about you. As an example, I am the owner of this blog scottchow.com. You could also include your middle initial or middle name in case you discover that your name is already used. You could also make a different name like “Scott Chow Blog” or “Blogging with Scott”.
Are you struggling to decide on a suitable title for your website? Get in touch with me and I’ll help you with your personal needs (for no cost). )!
After you’ve come up with some ideas for names, you’ll have to pick an extension for your domain.
A .com Domain extension will be the one most popular however .net or .org can also be used. It is important to remember that for the purpose of a blog’s domain, there must be no gaps between the words. So “Blogging with Scott” becomes bloggingwithscott.com
Step 2: Get your blog online
Once you’ve got your name in mind, now is the time to get your blog up and running. It may sound difficult or complicated however, the steps listed below will guide you through and simplify the process.
To start your blog online and running, you’ll require two things to get it up and running: blogging hosting (also referred to as Web hosting) and a blogging software. The good thing is that they are usually in a bundle.
Blog hosts are an organization that holds all of the blog’s files for your website and then delivers them to the user once you type your blog’s name. It is necessary to have an account with a blog hosting service to be able to host an online blog.
Also, you need the right software to build your blog. In this tutorial, I’ll guide you through the steps to create your blog with the WordPress blogging program, since it is one of the most popular flexible, adaptable, and easy to use.
The web host I would recommend and that I demonstrate how can use with this article is BlueHost. I personally utilize BlueHost and highly suggest BlueHost for all bloggers who are new due to:

These pages’ material of these sites is fixed, which means that the material isn’t changing or change frequently. These are mostly high-level pages that can be accessed through the menu option within your website.
The static material pages must be set up well in advance of when you publish your blog on the internet.
Important static pages that should include:
- About Myself (Us) – This page should contain a biographical overview of the author(s) and an explanation of the mission. Take a look at the answers to the following concerns: How did your enthusiasm for the subject develop? What do you hope to communicate to people around the globe? What is your main purpose?
- Contact Me (Us) – A contact page offers the user with a way to contact the author, which it provides visitors with the assurance that you’re a real and accessible author. You can include the address of your home, telephone number, and a custom email address. Additionally, you can use an easy contact form in order to protect your own personal identifiable details private. It is recommended to include hyperlinks to all of your social media accounts on this page too.
Apart from blogs, and which are typically displayed on your main page or home pages, both of these important pages should be displayed in the homepage (header) menu, and are easy to find. Take a peek at my homepage to check out how I have these pages in my menu for headers. Check out this comprehensive guide for customizing the menus for your blog for assistance.
Other static pages that are just important, but are not often discussed are:
- Disclaimer page If you plan to make money from your blog, you should explain the methods you plan to use to generate revenue. - Conditions of Service If your blog also operating a store, or offering services, it’s recommended to have an terms of Service page in order to limit your risk of being held accountable.
These static pages that are required are usually listed in the footer menus of blogs. They must, at minimum be accessible and visible on the main page. Take a take a look at the lower part section of the page and see what it is in actual practice.
There are other static websites you can add to your blog and your business. Examples of static pages that are common include an advertising page that solicits ads that are paid, a donation page or a resource page that can provide visitors with your preferred web pages within your industry or an area for submission of ideas as well as material.
Dynamic substance: Your dynamic material is your blog, and it is the most crucial material you’ll ever have. This is the place where you as a author of the blog, can infuse it with your personal brand of informational material which provides your visitors with a wealth of information, tips, facts as well as opinions and stories. That’s how you can engage your readers and keep returning for more.
Your blog’s material must be submitted regularly at regular intervals. In the long run, waiting months to write material is not going to create a following. Publishing material regularly while driving traffic to these posts will help to build your brand.

Every post should be long interesting, informative, and entertaining. It’s difficult coming up with fresh ideas for blog posts frequently, and it’s your choice to alter the tone or even the topic to keep things interesting and engaging. It’s your blog at the end of the day. There are however a few things that each piece of material must try to incorporate.

Make your paragraphs as short as possible with space in between make use of lists and memorable images, and use quotes and always include headings as well as sub-headings, so that readers can discover what they’re searching for.
Engage The Reader After every post, a popular technique used to engage readers is asking a pertinent query to your audience and then asking them to answer to your comments. This one-time step will rise engagement by tenfold.
Authentic Material: Your material must be unique. Don’t copy and paste – you’ll eventually be exposed for it, and may even suffer consequences. Your material should be based on you heart, mind as well as your expertise and your own experience. You can find topic ideas from experts within your industry, however you must make sure that the material originates from you.

Get involved in your blogging community by working with reputable members of your industry. Collaboration includes guest posts as well as sharing information about each other’s blogs and products, and regularly engaging via commenting and together social media.
Post Regularly
Post material frequently. Make an editorial calendar, and stick to it. A good blogger should post every week at least once in order to get started. If you’re prone to long gaps between posts, followers will decrease, and your growth will be affected. It’s difficult to publish in a regular manner however, it’s something you have to adhere to.
Create an Email List
Alongside bringing new readers to your website, you’ll also need to warrant that your current visitors keep returning. That’s where email marketing is a major factor. In collecting an email address of readers (with their consent of course) and then send them an email when you publish the latest material to your site. This helps keep visitors returning to your site which, in turn, gives you more visitors as time passes, but it will also allow you to establish more of a relationship with your readers.
Email marketing is too big an area to be covered on this blog, so I’ve made an entirely separate guide on mail marketing for anyone who is interested (hint that any blogger looking to improve their readership must go through the guide).

Submission of your blog’s material is the first stage in the process referred to as Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
Be aware that with an entirely new blog, your traffic is likely to be very low at first. But, this could alter over time, as long as you add useful and pertinent material regularly.
To maximize this process for maximum efficiency, every page of your blog should contain these essential elements:
- Header TagsSection Headings as well as subheadings must be wrapped in header tags. To accomplish this, simply click on the left side of the block that you are writing into and change the title into “Heading”. You then have the choice of choosing from H1, H2, H3 or H3.

There are plenty of other aspects that you should consider including installing something similar to Yoast, for instance. Yoast WordPress plugin however these are the main ones that can help boost your search engine rankings earlier and not later.

How to start a blog in Uganda (And actually make money for beginners).
A blog is a regularly updated website or web page, typically one run by an individual or small group written in an informal or conversational style.
Blogs were rarely used in the past 5 to 10 years but now there are 20 blogs created every minute.
Today we want to look at a step-by-step guide on how to start a blog in Uganda (And actually make money for beginners), but before we go there, I talked about making money in the title.
Yes, it is true. People make real money on their blogs and we too here at Infant Entrepreneur make money here on our blog.
I will show you too how you can make money off your blog as we continue but one thing I want to tell you is I started this blog after closing down 2 blogs.
I had started the previous 2 blogs as an amateur and I messed up a lot.
I ran my previous blogs for over a year without making a single coin off my blog and with no one interested in reading what I wrote.
I later met someone before starting Infant Entrepreneur—someone who would become my mentor in this world of blogging.
His name is Jake Falkinder. Jake taught me all that I know currently about blogging and I really recommend his work if you are a total beginner in blogging.
NOTICE:
Jake has a book where he talks all about starting a blog and making your first money on your blog.
His book "It pays to Blog" is available for only $9.95 and I want to tell you from experience, it is a lot cheaper compared to the value you gain from it.
It took us 7 months and 1 week to get our first paycheck off our blog. It doesn’t mean it will take you this long or it will be fewer than these.
What it means is it is not a single-night event to make money from blogging.
There are currently many bloggers in Uganda making some good money off their online-based business and some have even stopped doing other companies and settled on blogging as a full-time business.
Well surely, I have not yet reached that level but we are striving for that as well. So enough of the introduction, let us get to the party now! But before I go;
I want to you know that I started this blog with no prior knowledge of blogging and I was able to make it.
You too can. (If you want to jumpstart your blogging journey and overcome most of the pitfalls most beginners in Blogging make, get yourself a book from my mentor Jake ⇥here⇤)
So How Does One Start A Blog
There are two types of blogs. One is the free blog and the paid blog.
The free blog is truly free like its name but with many limitations. On the paid version, you have all the tools in your hands to create a superior blog.
Companies like WordPress and Blogger saw it fit to allow everyone to start a blog. That is why they decided to offer free blog services on WordPress and Blogger respectively.
I have no problem with these two companies and the free blog versions they offer if you are just making yourself familiar with what a blog is and how to write blog articles, but if you are serious about blogging and making money on your blog, a FREE blog platform won’t be of any help.
The next challenge with free blog platforms is the mid-name they add to your domain.
By mid-name, I mean the free blogging platforms don’t allow you to personalize your domain. For example, our domain is infantentrepreneur.com.
If we were using a free blog platform, our domain would be infantentrepreneur.wordpress.com or infantentrepreneur.blogger.com.
Though free and though anyone can remember your address, it does not look professional at all.
That is why I encourage you to go for Now! What does it take to start a website/Blog in Uganda
You need the following; Your website needs a basis (topic) on which to base on. By topic, I mean a niche (what your blog will be about) For Example, here at Infant Entrepreneur, our niche is personal finance. We focus on improving people’s financial state through articles about making money, saving money and investing money. There are many niches you can choose from, but before we go there, you need to choose a niche that you are well conversant with. It is not good to get a niche only to write an article and lack what to write there next. You need a niche that can be monetized. Now let us get this straight, not all blogs are started with the main purpose of making money and I encourage you too not to start your blog with the main purpose of making money. NB: Start a blog with the purpose of serving people and then you can later monetize it and start getting money off your hard work. The third thing to consider when choosing a niche is the ability to expand. Don’t choose a niche that is too narrow that you will exhaust with one topic. Choose a niche that is quite broad and will allow you to expand if you need to. Also, don’t choose a broad topic. Choose a topic that is at least related to one item or two items, not everything because if you want to attract everyone, you may end up attracting no one. Let us look at the niches now; These are some of the niches on which you can base your blog. It is good to have a niche that is in line with your passion because starting a blog and making it successful can be boring at first. You won’t have anyone to cheer you up, so you need your passion to be your cheerleader in these tender times. Are you worried you don’t know what to write as you start a blog in Uganda (And actually make money for beginners)? Don’t worry. You don’t have to know everything about your given niche in order for you to start. Start with the little you currently know and learn more about your niche as you grow with your blog. A domain is your address on Planet Internet. With a domain name, you can easily be seen by whoever wants to approach your website on the internet. As I have already said, there are two types of domains, paid and free. I encourage and recommend the latter. You need to have your own paid domain to benefit from your blog. A web host is a supercomputer that stores all your website files on its servers so it can be accessed by everyone in the world by just typing in your domain in the web browsers. There are many web hosts on the internet but I recommend Bluehost. I host all of my websites on Bluehost and I love many things about this host but some of the things I find on Bluehost and not any other web host are; Free Domain Name (If you decide to host your website on Bluehost, it pays for your domain name. You don’t have to incur double the costs of registering a domain name and also paying a WebHost to host your website) The blog needs to be hosted by a server that will keep it online. There are millions of hosts on the internet and we too here in Uganda have hosts that can host your blog and keep it online. But today I want to recommend the host I have used for years and it is still reliable. This host is Bluehost. Bluehost is the best host that you need as a beginner. They offer services just like many other hosts but they have some services that you can’t find anywhere else. The best services offered by Bluehost include; The host needs to have the following for it to qualify to be a good host. Customer care services: No man is perfect. We all need help somewhere and this is where customer care comes in. With Bluehost, their customer care crew is always there for any inquiries. If you feel you are stuck, you can contact them at any time. Speed: When it comes to online business, you need a website that is lightning fast because each time your blog takes longer to load, a user may easily leave it and go for another website that loads faster. BlueHost knows this and it set up its supercomputer to offer your website as fast as it can so you don’t need to worry about your website speed. After getting a host and installing WordPress on your website, the next step on how to start a blog in Uganda (And actually make money for beginners) is getting a theme to build on your website. Bluehost does the website installation for you. All you have to do is select the platform you want, but here we are going for WordPress and it will install the website for you. A theme is just like a cloth, it gives your website a shape and appearance. There are two types of themes on WordPress. Free themes are given for free and you don’t need to pay any coin for them. For the premium theme, you need to pay money to get it. Basically, as a beginner, you need a free WordPress theme and as you grow and want more customization, you can purchase a premium theme. Premium themes are good if you want to customize your website and make it what you want it to be. Free themes don’t come with this allowance, so if you need to customize your theme, you need a premium theme. There are plenty of premium themes on the market that you can buy according to your website type. For example, if you are going to start a news-type website, you need a Newspaper theme or Soledad theme. If you want a blog like ours here, you need a Generatepress (GP) theme. It is good and customisable. GeneratePress has both the free version and the Premium Version. You can choose any you want. Last but not least is making money off your blog. Not all blogs are started with the sole purpose of making money but most of the blogs are started to make money and if you too want to make money here are the steps. You can make money from your blog by using; Ads: Many companies supply ads on the internet but the most common companies are Google Adsense, mgid, Taboola and many more. Ads pay according to your traffic (the number of people visiting your website). The more people, the more they earn. Affiliate Marketing: Affiliates refer other people to products and services. As an affiliate, you don’t need to have a product of your own to make money online. You just need to refer other people’s products on your website and you get money for every purchase by a person referred by your link. You need to first register with the company or website that you want to promote and then every time you refer someone and they make a purchase, you get a commission off the money paid by the client you have referred. Online store: Some people make money off their blogs by selling their products directly on their websites. This is what we call an online store business. You put your business online and you sell to your customers and anyone that comes to your website. You can make plenty of money using this method because no one deducts the money you make. All the money you make is yours to keep. Those are the ways how you can make money on your blog. But one thing to remember, making money online is not a single-day event. It takes time, patience and a lot of practice. But please don’t give up if you don’t make money off your blog at first. It took us months to get our first paycheck off this website, but we are still adjusting in order to make more money. NOTE: If you make any purchase via the links we have provided, we will get a small commission but this won’t have any effect on the price of the item you purchase. If you appreciate our work, please support us by making purchases via our links. Thanks Here we come to the end of how to start a blog in Uganda (And make money for beginners).
